The Philippines was ably represented by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) through its President, Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, in the 2017 Global Summit of the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) on September 21-22, 2017 at 801 Conference Hall, Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, Taipei, Taiwan.

Aside from HEEACT-APQN, the 2017 Global Summit, which bears the theme “Regional Cooperation and Harmonization: ASEAN Countries and East Asia in Quality Assurance of Higher Education, was organized and sponsored by International Quality Assurance Organizations including the British Council. It was participated in by the Presidents and Representatives of foremost International Accrediting Agencies and Organizations as well as Presidents and Executives of prominent academic institutions not only from the ASEAN and East Asian Countries, but also throughout the world.

The 2017 Global Summit had three (3) prominent speakers, namely: (1) Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, AACCUP President and President/Professor of the Tarlac State University, (2) Mr. Ekaphong Lauhathiansind, Senior Expert, Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessments, ONESQA, Thailand, and (3) Prof. Dr. Shaw-Ren Lin, Dean, Office of Quality Assurance, HEEACT and Professor, Graduate Institute of Arts and Humanities, Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan. As President of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines, Dr. Mallari was invited as Session Speaker by Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hon, Executive Director of Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan and Professor of Higher Education, Fu Jen Catholic University and Vice President, Asia-Pacific Quality Network. Dr. Mallari provided the historical background and present status of Quality Assurance in the region and future plans and development which was superbly applauded and lauded.

Another highlight of the 2017 Global Summit was the Executive Session of selected Accrediting Agency Leaders in the region which included the AACCUP President Mallari for the Philippines. A Special Plan of Action of the Quality Assurance in the region was laid down. This was consummated through the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding of Quality Network Partners which included the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines.
